OUR HERITAGE

Rev. Robert and Irene King founded the church in 1952

In 1952, God placed a call on Rev. Robert and Irene King to begin a work in Lafayette Parish and Greater Acadiana. First Assembly was established as the first full gospel church in the area with services held in a tent on University Avenue near Interstate 10. Before coming to Lafayette, Pastor King served as a chaplain and soldier in the Navy during World War II.

The couple also served as pastors in Texas and Central Louisiana before coming to Lafayette.  The Holy Spirit swept through those early meetings bringing a hunger to the community. More people began to attend and the church had to move from the tent into its first building off of University Ave. Later, in the late 60's, property was purchased on South College Road and a new church was constructed for more growth. In 1984, the interior was remodeled to expand seating and classroom space.

Rev. Robert S. & Irene King served as pastors until 1994, ministering for over forty years.

Rev. Bruce & Marsha Headley were commissioned in 1994

Rev. Bruce & Marsha Headley were commissioned in 1994 as the new Pastors of First Assembly. They ministered, while the church was in a time of transition, and served as pastors for 8 years. In 1997, the church purchased property on Verot School Road in Youngsville, with a vision to see God move throughout Acadiana.

Rev. Tommy and Lisa Faulk came to First Assembly in 1996, serving alongside the Headleys until they took the helm in 2002.

As new pastors, Pastor Tommy lead the congregation as they moved from their location on South College Road in Lafayette to the current location in Youngsville. Through his leadership, the church successfully began to impact the community through our annual outreach events such as the Citywide Crosswalk and the Living Bethlehem Christmas production which reached 600-1000 people with the gospel each year. He also established the Youngsville Pantry which reaches out to provide food to over 300 families each month.  He became an instrumental voice in the community, even being awarded the "Key to the City" and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Youngsville Chamber of Commerce.

He and his wife, Lisa faithfully served the communities of Acadiana through First Assembly for 22 years.

On March 11th, 2018, Rev. Joe & Shannon Cormier are commissioned to pastor First Assembly.

On March 11th, 2018, First Assembly transitioned the pastorate to Rev. Joe and Shannon Cormier,
who are currently continuing the vision of First Assembly as being "A Place to Meet with God".

Pastor Joe received his ordination through the Assemblies of God in 2016 after spending nearly 20 years in the oilfield industry. Shannon is a graduate from Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, TX and currently holds a ministry license with the Fellowship of Ministers and Churches.

Together, they have a heart to serve both, the congregation at First Assembly and the Youngsville community and the surrounding area. This is a Holy Spirit filled church and as pastors, Joe and Shannon will always allow the Spirit of God to move, transforming lives.
